Hello Message from Boris:
My name is Boris and I’m excited to become a new member of the CMPNY team!
I’m currently a student at SFU who is still debating their major, though I know I’m leaning towards a science background. On campus, I’m involved with various clubs and organizations, and you’ll find me spending a lot of time with SFU’s science undergraduate society. As a person, i’m always open to helping out, collaborating with others, working on projects, and trying new things.
Outside of all that, I’m a person who loves watching movies and TV shows. I actually just finished Game of Thrones and I could probably go on that for years if you wanted me to. I’m also super into photography (which has kind of slowed down over the years), as well as trekking and travelling. I still wouldn’t suggest camping with me though.
Thanks for having me on board with the team, and I can’t wait to get started here!”
Q&A With Boris
What are you excited about life right now?
It’s not major but I’m having a short trip to Europe by the end of August to see my grandmother again, and I can’t wait! Last summer I actually ended up going to Nepal for 2 months (and that one was only supposed to be 3 weeks…), and I’m so excited to travel again.
Would you consider yourself as a night owl or morning bird?
101% a night owl. I’ll hit the snooze button on my alarm at least 5 times before actually waking up on average. It’s gotten so bad that I’m pretty sure I naturally snooze my alarm in my sleep.
Would you describe yourself as messy, or neat?
I don’t know why but outside of my house I’m really great at keeping track of things, being organized and staying on top of things, but once I get back home I really let myself go.
What Karaoke song would you sing where you don’t need the monitor
Anything after a few drinks.
If you were a hiphop artist what would your stage name be?
Well… My nickname in high school used to be Berry… and ever since Men in Black 3 released I’ve also been called “Boris The animal”, so… I think i’ll take “Berry the Animal”? That’s a genuine rapper name, right?
**EDIT: So I took a second to look up some rapper name generators and it’s official, Bori$ is in the house.
**EDIT 2: NO WAIT, i’d like to change it again. “Borisormous” for sure this time. Who made this amazing bot?
What’s the first thing you do in the morning?
If I actually wake up on time (which on its own is a miracle) i’ll typically spend a few moments debating if I can truly sleep for “only 5 more minutes”, and if somehow I say no to that, i usually then stumble into the shower and close my eyes for a bit. I’m really not a morning person.
If you could switch lives with a person, who would it be?
I’m really torn between Elon Musk and Chris Hemsworth. On one hand, I think it’d be awesome to be in charge of a major tech company since Musk could probably get a team of engineers to design almost anything. I think robot dinosaurs would be pretty cool, just saying.
I’d also consider Chris Hemsworth because I’ve liked acting as a kid and feel like I’d enjoy it. Plus he’s ripped, so that’d be nice.
What’s your spirit animal?
I’d definitely have to go with the red panda. They look so derpy and I just resonate with that.
We love boardgames at CMPNY – What’s your favourite boardgame?
Okay i’m probably going to sound really basic but I LOOOVE monopoly. I’ll play that all day any day.
Do you have a middle name?
I actually don’t! My family is European and when I asked my dad why we didn’t have one, he told me that it was an “American thing”.
Have you ever broken a bone?
No, I wouldn’t do that to them! My bones are pristine.
Do you have siblings?
I have an older sister named Annie. She’s a major book worm and huge on sci-fi; and she’s likely the reason why I’m into things like Star Trek and Interstellar. She’s actually so fascinated by that stuff that she majored in astrophysics at UBC a few years back. She’s a pretty awesome sister if you ask me.
Where did you grow up?
It’s not a really special story, I was born in Croatia in 1999 and moved to BC in 2002 because my parents thought it would be best for us, and they weren’t wrong. We’ve been living here since!
Who do you look up to?
This one’s actually kind of hard because I rarely look up to people in general, but rather I look up to their certain individual traits (We’re about to get deep). I value those that are great and caring leaders or just charismatic people overall, and I also have major respect for researchers, doctors and anyone who puts their time aside to better the community and those around them. That is something that I hope to do as well one day.
But I’ve also been told that I look kind of like Jon Krazinski so I gotta play my part.
Do you still have your wisdom teeth?
So everyone in my family has had at least a few wisdom teeth, but my dentists swear to me that I don’t have any at all. At first, I thought it was a prank but they haven’t been letting up so they’re either great bluffs, or I’m the next evolutionary step in my family.
What’s the next thing on your bucket list?
I would love love love to work on getting my recreational pilots license and I’ve been really close to signing up a few times but the price just makes me cringe a bit every time I see it. One day that’ll happen. I guess the next closest thing on my list is figuring out what degree I want to pursue. Wait… that sounds like a lame list item, let’s go skydiving.
What are you looking forward to at CMPNY?
One of the things that I’m most looking forward to at CMPNY is helping support a collaborate environment while meeting a diverse group of ambitious people. I can’t wait to get to know everyone!
